June 19, 1865 marked just one of the many endings to the Civil War. On that day Union general Gordon Granger landed at Galveston and announced to Texans that the war was over and slavery had ended.
On this 150th anniversary of Juneteenth Day, the SCWH looks both to the past and the future with this revamped website. Fully integrated with the Society’s Facebook page and Twitter feed, the site will be a resource for information about the organization. In addition, we encourage our members and other interested parties to contribute content:
- Member News
- Calls for Papers
- Fellowship and job announcements
- Events of interest to Civil War historians at museums, libraries, and archives
As we ponder the ends of war on this day, the SCWH hopes that this new website will work to further the ends of historical inquiry, and bring the members of the Civil War history community together. If you are reading this, you have already found the site. Explore it a little and let us know what you think!
