ABOUT

The Society of Civil War Historians (SCWH), founded in 1985, is an organization of 600 members who share an interest in the military, political, and cultural histories of the Civil War’s battlefields and home fronts. The Society organizes a biennial conference; awards prizes for the best book on Civil War history and outstanding graduate student paper given at the SCWH conference; and offers subscriptions to The Journal of the Civil War Era. The George and Ann Richards Civil War Era Center at Penn State University serves as a base for the Society’s activities.
